Where the Amazon meets the Atlantic

← Todos los estados

Amapá sits at the mouth of the Amazon River where the rainforest meets the Atlantic Ocean. Macapá, its capital, straddles the Equator almost exactly and is home to the Fortaleza de São José, an 18th-century Portuguese fortress. Over 70% of the state is protected by conservation areas, making it one of the most intact ecosystems in Brazil.
